In Ellie Wiesel's interview with Oprah they talked over the tough times he spent in the concentration camp. Ellie Wiesel is a holocaust survivor. He was put in Auschwitz one of the Nazi concentration camps. When he went on Oprah and it was mostly over his life in the concentration camps. There were a few subjects that he couldn't talk about including his mother. When he got put into one of the camps he got split up from his mother and sister and that was the last time he ever saw them. Think of how hard that must have been for him, think of what it'd be like for you if you never saw a mother or a sister what was the last thing you ever said to them? Another topic that they discussed was his father. Ellie's father died in the camp after they had made it through so long together. Ellie was nursing his father back to health and he kept getting beaten and he couldn't stop them. In the book it talks about how one time his father was sleeping and people came to take him to the incinerator because they thought he was dead and they kept beating him and he opened his eye s and them they left when they realized he was still alive. In the end they talked about how when Ellie survived Oprah asked why he thought he survived and he said by mistake. He said that there were people smarter and better suited for it yet somehow he survived. Think about it being the only one in your family that survived and you come out and someone asks why you survived and you have to tell them by mistake how would that feel. Oprah brought up in the beginning that 22% of Americans don't believe that the holocaust even happened and she said it’s hard to think something like that could even happen and Ellie said that it was harder to think of a time outside of the camp a time of freedom or that they couldn't even imagine living through this and that they would survive. Think about being in a place locked up where you cant even imagine what freedom is like. In the beginning of the book it talks about how Moishe the Beadle come out of one of the camps alive and no one believed what he'd been through think of how all of this could have been avoided just by listening and believing him. Finally they covered in the end of his book how he said he looked up and saw a corpse instead of himself when he looked in the mirror. After going through everything all he saw was a corpse of himself and not what he used to be.

In part IV of night Eliezer has a gold crown and he is sent to the dentists to get his gold crown taken out. The gold crown is worth a lot in the camp. It can buy you food or days off of work inside the camp. Eliezer stalls on getting his crown taken out until one of the polish workers there figures out and beats Eliezer and his dad into submission so he could get the crown. Later on in the chapter the camp goes into a lock down so all the guards and workers go into there cabins until its over and someone leaves soup out. One of the people in the camp sneaks out during the lock down and eats the soup and is hanged for it. The rest of part IV talks about how people are hanged and how they affect Eliezer. That is where the “That night, the soup tasted of corpses?” and the , “I remember that on that evening, the soup tasted better than ever.” come from. The deaths affect Eliezer differently. If its someone he knows better the soup doesn't taste very good and if he didn't know the person very well the soup would taste better than if he knew the person. The soup in the story represents his attitude and his feeling toward the deaths of other people in the camp. At this point Eliezer has lost a lot of his feelings after being in the camp for a while. He is now tougher mentally than he was before he came. The camp really changed him.
The documentary we watched in class was a women named Kitty Hart-Moxon telling her story and how they were treated in the holocaust. Kitty was in Auschwitz one of the concentration camps. She told how they got to there and how everything happened when they were in their. She said that the key to surviving was forming group since all the prisoners were the workers in the camp they could try and sneak each other food and clothes. In the book Night by Ellie Wiesel its about a group of Jewish people and there long journey to the camp. The similarities in the book and document are they are both going to Auschwitz, they both are about Jewish people and the horrible tragedy they endure during the holocaust. The differences in the book Night are very few. It is hard to find very many differences in the 2 tragic stories. A couple differences between the book Night and Kitty's story is that in the book it is more over the whole story of the group where as in the documentary with Kitty is is more focused on her jobs and how they survived together and got where they were. I personally like the documentary better because the images help me understand more and get a better grasp of the harsh reality they were living in and lived through.
The significance of the story of Moishe the Beadle is important because it helps show or illustrate what people went through in the holocaust, or how badly they were actually treated in the holocaust. The story can also tell and change people mind if they say they don't believe the holocaust happened. Moishe the Beadle's story starts out with him living in Sighet a city in Transylvania. It is him as an adult in Sighet where he is a known as a jack of all trades in a house of prayer. He was Jewish so when the Nazis came they took him and the other foreign Jewish people like him in the town. They took them to a concentration camp. Before Moishe the Beadle was taken to a concentration camp he was a person that people didn't necessarily like but nobody had a problem. He rendered himself invisible like he didn't exist. Then after he was take he was quiet, he didn't talk to them, he warned them he told them what he experience but nobody would believe him and they didn't think it could happen to them.
The main character in To Build a Fire is against nature and he is put in situations that not the same as any other animal. Disrespect it or make a mistake, and you will suffer the consequences. In the climate of the story, man is inferior to other animals. The character takes the environment too lightly and does not prepare properly, and there are consequences for this. The man in the story does not expect the environment to get this cold so he is not properly prepared which leads to him getting frost bite or other serious complications.
The sneeches with the stars on their belly's Represent the high middle to upper class and the sneeches without stars on their belly's represent the lower class. when the sneeches without had a chance to get stars so they could fit in, the sneeches with stars did not like that too much. originally the ones without stars payed three dollars to get stars but when the ones with stars before want theirs off it was 10 dollars. The man that took off and put on stars made out like a bandit. And after no one had any money it no longer mattered who had stars or not.
Imagination- Is important with the creation of the novel.
